Accessibility

Access keys - To aid accessibility, we have applied the UK Government Access Keys Standard to this web site. These provide keyboard shortcuts to specific parts of the site - a useful feature for people who do not use a pointing device, such as a mouse.
Using access keys - Access keys work slightly differently depending on which browser and type of computer you're using:
If you're using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 on a PC, press 'Alt' and the access key simultaneously
If you're using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (or above), press 'Alt' and the access key simultaneously, then 'Return
If you're using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (or above) on an Apple Macintosh, press 'Ctrl' and the access key simultaneously.
If you're using Netscape 6, use the 'Alt' key on a PC and the 'Ctrl' key on an Apple Macintosh.
Alternative ('Alt') text - All images on this web site are accompanied by a brief alternative text which, where appropriate, identifies an image or its function. This alternative text (alt-text) is generally only visible when your browser's automatic image loading feature is turned off.
Links - All text links have been written so that they make sense when read out of context (eg by screen readers).
Text size - The text on this web site has been styled using a non-fixed value in a style sheet. This means that you can change the size of the text on your screen by using your browser settings as follows:
If you're using Internet Explorer, select View > Text Size and select your preferred size
If you're using Netscape, select View > Text Zoom and select your preferred percentage size
If you're using Mozilla Firefox, select View > Text size and select Increase or Decrease.
Colours - The colours used on the site have been carefully selected to provide as much contrast between text and background as possible. They have also been checked to ensure they work for those with different colour blindness types.
Rich media - Where content appears in rich media formats (eg as video, flash applications etc) an alternative HTML version is also provided so as not to exclude users without certain software from viewing the content.
